How We Make Money

Transparency is the foundation of trust. Here’s exactly how GearInspector pays its bills.

1. Affiliate Commissions (Our Main Income)

When you click a link on GearInspector and buy a product from a retailer like Amazon, Best Buy, or Walmart, we may earn a small commission — at zero extra cost to you. The price you pay is identical whether you use our link or go directly to the store.

We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and other affiliate programs. These commissions fund our testing lab, writers, and hosting.

Important: We never let affiliate potential influence our rankings. Our editorial team doesn’t know which retailers give higher commissions, and we often recommend products that earn us less — because quality comes first.

2. Display Advertising

You’ll see banner ads on some pages. These are served through reputable ad networks (like Mediavine or Google AdSense) and help support our free content. We block intrusive ad formats and never allow pop‑unders or malware.

All advertisements are clearly distinguishable from editorial content. We never mix paid ads with our genuine recommendations.

3. Sponsored Content & Placements

Occasionally, a brand may pay us to create a dedicated article, video, or to appear in a “Sponsored” section. Every single piece of sponsored content is clearly labelled with words like “Sponsored,” “Paid Placement,” or “Promoted.”

Brands have no influence over our regular reviews, buying guides, or comparison articles. Those remain 100% independent and are never for sale. If a product appears in a buying guide alongside a “Sponsored” tag, that label is always visible.

4. Guest Posts

Our “Write for Us” program allows other experts to contribute articles. Some contributors pay a fee to cover our editorial review and publishing process. All guest posts are vetted for quality and relevance to our audience. We clearly disclose the author and their affiliation (if any) in the author box.

5. Digital Products (Coming Soon)

In the future, we may sell our own e‑books, checklists, or premium tools. These will be entirely optional and designed to add extra value, not to replace our free content. We’ll always be upfront about what’s paid and what’s free.

6. Why This Model Keeps Us Honest

Our business depends on your trust. If we ever recommend a bad product just to earn a commission, you won’t come back. Every bad recommendation hurts our reputation and long‑term success. That’s why we:

  • Buy our own test units (or disclose when a manufacturer sends one).
  • Re‑test products regularly and update scores.
  • Publish our full Editorial Policy so you know exactly how we work.
  • Never accept cash payments for positive reviews or ratings.

You can read our Review Methodology to see how we score and compare products.

A Note from the Editor

“GearInspector was built on the belief that people deserve clear, honest buying advice. Every decision we make — from which products to review to how we monetize — starts with the question: ‘Is this good for our readers?’ If the answer is no, we don’t do it.”
