Sony A7R V Review
The Sony A7R V carries a 61-megapixel full-frame sensor that resolves detail no other mirrorless camera can match. The new AI processing unit recognises humans, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains, and aeroplanes, locking focus with eerie precision. The 8-stop in-body image stabilisation allows handheld shooting at shutter speeds previously impossible.
The 4-axis multi-angle LCD screen is a welcome upgrade, and the updated menu system (finally) makes sense. The electronic viewfinder is a 9.44M-dot OLED – the best in its class. 8K video is available but with a 1.24x crop; 4K oversampled from 6.2K is the sweet spot.
At nearly $4,000, the A7R V is a niche tool. Wedding and portrait photographers who need massive prints will love it; casual shooters should look at the A7 IV. But if resolution is your priority, nothing else comes close.
